AP English Language and Composition and Sophomore English

A Little About Ms. Santana

This school year marks my thirteenth year at Newtown High School, and it has been an absolute pleasure being part of the Newtown family for this long. As a Newtown teacher, I enjoy it when my students are actively engaged, ask questions, and rise to the challenge.

Currently, I teach the following courses: Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, Sophomore English Honors and College Now Reading the Biography. Each course is unique because they allow students to explore different topics and genres.

Attention all students:
Assignments including department exams will be posted on Google Classroom. Here are the codes to join:

MAP Growth Reading Assessment-- September 19th and 20th

MAP Growth is an assessment that measures achievement and growth in K–12 math, reading, language usage, and science. It provides teachers with accurate, actionable evidence to help inform instructional strategies regardless of how far students are above or below grade level. It also connects to the largest set of instructional content providers, giving educators flexibility in curriculum choices.

Prognostic Assessment

On Monday, October 3rd all Newtown sophomores will be given a NYS Regents practice exam as a benchmark assessment. The purpose of a benchmark assessment is to understand if students have mastered specific standards and are ready to move on.
