Due to unforeseen circumstances, our mock trial has been canceled. Instead of the mock trial, your task is to construct a five-paragraph synthesis essay. I posted directions for the task below, similar to what you will see on the day of the College Board exam. DUE MARCH 24th.
AP Synthesis Essay
Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl—is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare.
In preparation for our mock trial, you were instructed to set out to determine whether a doctor should be held responsible for a patient overdosing on opioids. To make this determination, you were asked to read several documents. Now, it is time to finalize your stance. Synthesize the material from at least three of the sources [remember aim for more, in case you miss the target with one source] and incorporate it into a coherent, well-developed essay that defends, challenges, or qualifies the notion that doctors should be held responsible for a patient overdosing on opioids.
Your argument should be the focus of your essay. Use the sources to develop your argument and explain the reasoning for it. Avoid merely summarizing the sources. Indicate clearly which sources you are drawing from, whether through direct quotation, paraphrase, or summary. You may cite the sources as Source A, Source B, etc., or by using the descriptions in parentheses.
Case file with the statements and exhibits is attached to this assignment.
